How to Enable Download Booster on Galaxy S5 (AT&T/ Sprint/ Verizon)

Enable-Download-Booster-on-Galaxy-S5

Samsung’s engineers might be incapable of bringing new design to their flagships for the last couple of years, but the company never misses to introduce some really good features. The Galaxy S5 might not appeal to you with its look but it a some really awesome features. The Download Booster is one of the most interesting features of the Galaxy S5 but it has been disabled on some US variants of the device.

If you own a Sprint, AT&T, or Verizon Galaxy S5, you might not find the Download booster on your phone. It’s not that the feature is not found at all on these models, it’s just hidden just like the Developer options on Android device running Android 4.2 or above. The AT&T website proclaims that the carrier has been testing Download booster and so it appears that the feature might be made available to users in future. But what about other Verizon and Sprint?

Well, you need not live on the mercy of these carriers anymore as now there is a way to make this feature visible and enable it. Download booster employs a special technology that boosts the rate of download significantly by taking advantage of WiFi and LTE networks at the same time. Thus, to be able to use Download booster, you need to turn of WiFi and mobile data on your phone. The feature makes it easier and faster to download large files over 30 MB.

Having activated the Download Booster on Galaxy S5, you can easily access it via statusbar or notification toggles screen.

Enable Download Booster on Galaxy S5

As for users’ reviews about the feature, they are of mixed nature. Some find it working while other say it is simply ineffective. If you want to find it yourself, just follow the method to enable Download Booster on Galaxy S5.

  1. Download a third-party launcher app like Nova or APex and set it as your default launcher.

  2. Tap and hold the home screen and select Shortcuts.

  3. Navigate to Activities>Settings>Download Booster and select it.

  4. Tap the new settings icon on the home screen and enable Download booster.

RevelationOmega, the man who discovered this method of enabling Download booster has now been testing a mod to make the feature work effectively on the AT&T/Sprint/Verizon Galaxy S5. We’ll keep an eye on the latest developments and share it here when it’s available. Meanwhile, if you have root and custom recovery on your S5,  you can jump to his XDA thread and participate in his beta testing. Cheers!

Enjoy Louder Speaker & Headphone Volume with Galaxy S5 Volume Boost Mod

Galaxy-S5-Volume-Boost-Mod

Personally, I never have had the luck to feel happy about two things on the Android devices I have owned so far: the battery life and the speaker volume output. Being a regular commuter, these two things have always been a matter of concern for me. Nobody likes his/her phone to run out of battery on the mid way, nor does anybody feels good when he/she misses a call or mail notification.

I see Samsung’s latest flagship, the Galaxy S5, as a device that fails to impress the users on many fronts, especially when you compare it to phones like LG G2 and HTC One M8. The volume output of the phone’s speakers is one of the things many of its owners might not feel pleased with. If you own the Samsung Galaxy S5 and are not quite satisfied with the loudness of its built-in speaker volume, we have a good news for you.

XDA member stalli0nUK has prepared a volume boost mod for the Galaxy S5 that significantly increases the speaker volume of the device. His mod is available in three loudness levels: lite, medium and high. Besides, stalli0nUK has also released another mod for those who feel that their Galaxy S5’s headphone volume is not enough loud. Not happy with any of the volume mods? Don’t worry, as there is a restore version too installing which you can return back to stock volume intensity.

All four Galaxy S5 Volume Boost mods are available in recovery flashable Zips. It simply means that to be able to install the mod, you must not only have Galaxy S5 with root access but also a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP installed on it. If your phone meets both these requirements, you can download the desired Volume Boost mod file from below and flash it right away to enjoy louder volume.

Compatibility:

The mod has been tested successfully on the international Galaxy S5 LTE SM-G900F, T-Mobile S5 SM-G900T, Canadian Galaxy S5 G900W8, etc. However, it should work on all Qualcomm models of the Galaxy S5.

Download Galaxy S5 Volume Boost Mod

Warning: Do not try the Loud version of the mod to avoid audio distortion. Go with either version 1, 2 or 4.

Volume Mod Lite: S5_Volume_Boost_Version_v1.zip

Volume Mod Medium: S5_Volume_Boost_Version_v2.zip

Volume Mod Loud: S5_Volume_Boost_Version_v3.zip

Volume Mod Lite Speaker+Headphone: S5_Volume_Boost_Version_v4.zip

Restore Stock Volume: S5_Volume_RESTORE.zip

Link to the latest versionClick here

How to Install:

  1. Download the mod file and copy the Zip to your phone.

  2. Reboot your Galaxy S5 into CWM/TWRP recovery mode. You do it by turning of the device and then holding the Volume Up+Home+Power buttons together for 4-5 seconds.

  3. Do not forget to backup your current ROM before flashing any mod or ROM on your device so that you can restore it in case of a mishap.

  4. Use the Install option in the recovery, navigate to the volume mod Zip file and select it.

  5. Confirm the installation and wait till it is installed.

  6. Finally, reboot your phone using the Reboot system option.

When your Galaxy S5 boots up, you should feel noticeably louder speaker volume on it. Enjoy and do not forget to share your feedback with us!

How to Reset UNLOCKED Status to LOCKED on HTC One M8

Reset-UNLOCKED-Status-to-LOCKED-on-HTC-One-M8

All HTC phones come with locked bootloaders that needs to be unlocked before involving into any custom development activity. If you got a brand new HTC device with locked bootloader, just press and hold the Volume Down + Power keys to get into the bootloader mode on your phone and you would see *** LOCKED *** banner at the top the screen.

Once you unlock the bootloader of your HTC device via HTC Dev portal or gain S-OFF using Firewater method, the *** LOCKED *** flag disappears and your device status begins to show as *** UNLOCKED *** and *** TAMPERED ***. These flags are deliberately put by HTC to show that you have done something that the OEM does not want its users to do. If there occurs some problem with your phone and you submit it to the service center, your phone is likely to be rejected the HTC guys notice 3 things:

  1. Red development text on the bootscreen.

  2. And, the *** TAMPERED *** flag.

  3. The *** UNLOCKED *** status of the device.

The customary way of regaining the stock *** LOCKED *** status, you will have to unroot your HTC phone and relock the bootloader. Luckily Android is an open source platform and fortunately we have so many talented developers with itching palms who won’t sit calmly at the state of things.

If you own a brand new HTC One M8 with an unlocked bootloader or S-OFF, you can easily get rid of all 3 signs of having a tampered device we mentioned above. Just a few days ago, we covered two hacks to remove the TAMPERED flag and the red development message on the boot screen of the One M8:

  • How to Remove Tampered Banner on HTC One M8

  • Remove Red Text from HTC One M8′s HBOOT Screen

XDA senior member scotty1223 is back again with another hack method to reset UNLOCKED status to LOCKED on HTC One M8. To get the job done, all you need is to issue a few ADB commands. So, let’s see how we can do it.

Disclaimer

The procedure described in this tutorial is considered risky and making even a single mistake in typing the command lined might brick your device. Play it carefully and safe at your own responsibility.

Prerequisites

  • HTC One M8 with S-OFF. If you have not S-OFF’ed your phone, jump to Firewater’s official page to gain it.

  • Download and install HTC USB Drivers on your computer. If you have installed HTC Sync, uninstall it temporarily to avoid any problem.

  • You must have ADB (Android Debug Bridge) installed and setup on your computer: Refer to this or this guide to setup ADB.

  • Also, enable USB Debugging on your HTC One M8. If you do not know how to do it, we have laid down the steps to enable USB Debugging on this tutorial.

Reset UNLOCKED Status to LOCKED on HTC One M8

  1. Navigate to the directory where you have setup the Android SDK. Open the folder the platform-tools directory where ADB and Fastboot files are found.

  2. Press the Shift key and then do a right-click on the mouse at an empty space in the  platform-tools folder. Select Open command window here option to launch cmd prompt.

  3. Connect your phone to the computer using USB cable.

  4. Just to make sure that you have setup the ADB properly, type the following command in the cmd and press a key on the keyboard:
    adb devices

  5. If you see the serial number of your device on the cmd, all’s fine and you can proceed with the next step.

  6. Now issue the following commands on the cmd (we strongly recommend that you copy/paste the commands as they are:
    adb shell
    su
    echo -ne '\x00\x00\x00\x00' | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 bs=1 seek=33796
    exit
    exit

  7. By now, the UNLOCKED Status of your HTC One M8 should have turned to to LOCKED. Just to make sure that the magic has been done successfully, reboot your M8 into the Bootloader Mode by using the following command:
    adb reboot bootloader

Your phone’s bootloader screen should show as shown below:

Reset-UNLOCKED-Status-to-LOCKED-on-HTC-One

It’s time to revel at your success! To revert back to the UNLOCKED status, you can use the following commands:

Remove Red Text from HTC One M8’s HBOOT Screen (Int/Vzw/Spr/Rogers/AT&T/Telus)

Remove-Red-Developer-Text-HTC-One-M8

The HTC One M8 is definitely the most beautiful and premium-looking Android smartphone. I has been catching the fancy of users since it launch the last month. As it usually happens, our developer community gather its tools and weapons to come with different hack and mods as soon a significant device is lost. The HTC one M8 is no exception as we already have a plethora of custom development going round the device.

Just a few days ago, we shared a trick to remove the TAMPERED banner from One M8’s bootloader screen. Taking the development furthersantod040 from XDA forum has prepared a mod that can remove red text from HTC One M8 HBOOT screen.

While the tampered flag is shown only when you boot the device in Bootloader mode, the red development text scowls at us each time we reboot the phone. The red text message begins to show on all HTC device after unlocking the device bootloader using HTC Dev method and runs like this:
This build is for development purposes only. Do not distribute outside of  HTC without HTC’s written permission. Failure to comply may lead to legal action.

If you want to get rid of this red warning on your shiny HTC One M8 with unlocked bootloader, you can easily do it flashing santod040’s modified HBOOT. The developer has release his HBOOT mod for 8 variants of the HTC One M8, including-

  • International HTC One M8 (WWE)

  • International HTC One M8 (GER)

  • AT&T HTC One M8

  • Sprint HTC One M8

  • Verizon HTC One M8

  • Telus HTC One M8

  • Rogers HTC One M8

  • HTC One M8 Developer Edition

Warning!

You must S-OFF your HTC One M8 before trying the mod since it is all about replacing the original HBOOT with the modded one. In case you device is still S-ON, do not proceed!

How to open SIM card slot if you don't have a SIM tool

SIM tools - those little metal things you occasionally get with a new phone - are like four leaf clovers: supposedly they're all over the place but do you know anyone that actually has one? Fortunately for me, and you, I've MacGyvered my way into the SIM card tray and microSD card slot many a time. Here's five ways to open the SIM card slot without a SIM tool. I'm using a Nexus 5 but it'll work for any phone, assuming you don't just remove a flap or pop off the back cover!

Earring

If you're a lady or have a lady friend, this might be the closest thing at hand to get you into your SIM tray. Pretty much any earring will work, and even if it doesn't you might just make yourself a new friend.

  • Check out a roundup of our best Android for Beginners articles.

Paper clip

Probably the next most common thing if you happen to work in an office. Beware the fat plastic coated paperclips, but pretty much any small paper clip will get your SIM tray ejected. And when you're done you can use it to attach various bits of paper together.

Needle

If you repair socks and pants as much as I do (you don't want to know) then you'll have a needle floating around the house somewhere. Just use the not-pointy end in the SIM eject hole and press down on the edge of a table. I'd advise you not to try this using your hand.

Thumb tack/staple

Another ubiquitous object around the home and office is the thumb tack. There's many shapes and sizes but pretty much all of them are capable of opening your SIM tray. If you're thinking outside the box then you've probably realized that you could also use a staple.

Mechanical pencil

Not the most common thing (a bunch of AndroidPIT editors had no idea what I was talking about when I asked for a mechanical pencil) but if you have one its perfect for popping open your SIM tray. Just be careful because the lead likes to break. Of course, there's lots of other alternatives too, including a toothpick, safety pin or basically any other pointy thing you have laying around.

While there is no news yet on North American pricing and availability just yet (all you Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile users will have to wait), we do have some details for the UK. The Galaxy Alpha has an off-contract price of £549.

Galaxy Alpha UK pricing and availability

Vodafone has now commenced offering the Galaxy Alpha for free to customers on a 38.50 GBP per month contract. You can pay 199 GBP up front if you want their cheapest contract of 26.50 GBP per month. Vodafone previously confirmed that it will distribute the device in all of the current colors (Dazzling White, Frosted Gold, Charcoal Black and Sleek Silver), although right now I can't see the gold version on the site.

Carphone Warehouse also has all the same three colors (minus gold), plus an exclusive blue model. Carphone Warehouse have the Galaxy Alpha for zero pounds upfront on a 33 GBP per month contract with O2, or for 34.50 GBP on Vodafone itself.

EE is also stocking the Galaxy Alpha, but only in black or white. The cheapest you can get an Alpha with EE is 19 GBP up front on a 45.99 GBP per month plan. A 35.99 GBP per month planwith 1 GB of included data will set you back 69.99 GBP up front.

  • Pick up a Galaxy Alpha from EE.

Three will let you have a Galaxy Alpha for 49 GBP upfront on a 28 GBP per month contract. You can also pay zero upront and jump on a 33 GBP per month plan for two years.

  • Grab a Galaxy Alpha via Three.

Galaxy Alpha US pricing and availability

We know that the Galaxy Alpha will be making its way to the US and will definitely appear on both the AT*T and T-Mobile networks, but we still don't have any confirmations.

Though it's had its fair share of criticism, in our hands on Samsung Galaxy Alpha review we found the handset to be rather impressive, and worthy of the Galaxy name.

Will you be buying the Galaxy Alpha when it is released in your territory?

App developers can't hide Apps with in-app purchases must reveal homeaddress

Google is making changes to Play Store policy so developers will have to publicly display an address if their apps cost money or feature in-app purchases. Starting 30 September, it will be mandatory to show a physical address or apps risk being remove from the store.

google play teaser
Developers will soon need to provide their address details in Google Play. / © ANDROIDPIT
A message appeared in the developer console explaining that an address needs to be provided and that it will be visible to anyone browsing Google Play:
Add a physical contact address Beginning September 30, 2014, you need to add a physical address to your Settings page. After you've added an address, it will be available on your app's detail page to all users on Google Play. If your physical address changes, make sure to update your information on your Settings page.

If you have paid apps or apps with in-app purchases, it's mandatory to provide a physical address where you can be contacted. If you don't provide a physical address on your account, it may result in your apps being removed from the Play Store.

This will make it much easier for customers to get in touch with a developer if necessary, and it is not the only change that is on the cards. The developer of GoneMAD Music Player contacted Google for confirmation about the new address policy. The email response not only confirms this, but also explains that the price of in-apps purchases and subscriptions associated with an app must be displayed:
We will display the price ranges for apps that offer in-app purchases and/or subscriptions on the app's store listing page.

Is this a move you're happy with? Will you be sending fan or hate mail to a developer soon?
